About Alex Mercatali

Alex Mercatali Born in 1980 in a small town of Italy. Raised as a gentle soul by my family,
I tasted how life really was at 13 when my father died from a colon cancer after three years of chemio therapy.
I remained true to myself till 21, when another, this time more rapid, reality check struck upon me.
Again death by cancer, my mother. And no, they weren\'t old, in fact they were 49 and 50 years old.
How that\'s related to photography? Well, in 1990 my father bought an Olympus OM 101 camera, with manual adapter and 3 lenses.
He almost never used it, but promptly let me use it whenever we went to the countryside despite my mother worries about me crashing it.
So, when it really started in a less casual way? To tell the truth, only 5 years ago, when everything wasn\'t absolutely going the way I wanted,
I sold my house, bought some equipment, moved to Rome, and tried from scratch to taught myself how to shoot, in the only way I could accept, doing it.
I was thrilled by alternative culture, ranging from gothic to cyberpunk and so on. Unfortunately, I was so naive and stupid, that I tought it could work.
It doesn\'t unless you already have a big name behind you, or a shit load of money to waste. So I really wasted a lot of money, but nothing really good came from it. I had even debt only 2 years later (keep in mind that I bought everything from start, paying even wardrobe sometimes plus models).
The point? I landed hard on my face for the third time in my life, but I\'m still on my feet, again. And again I\'m trying to achieve something good, finally.
Enought about me, the photo are far more interesting ;-)
